Matt Mullenweg and Mike Little designed WordPress as a branch of B2 Cafelog in May 2003 after Mullenweg posted about his disappointment that B2 Cafelog not making the progress he believed that it could be making. In May 2004 plugins were introduced with Mullenweg ‘s own Hello Dolly plugin. Since then WordPress has become a widely used CMS, Content Management System.

WordPress.org Entity

The WordPress.org is a collaboration of a large community of people whose goal is to design software that makes it easy for anyone to showcase their projects, products, and services on the world wide web. WordPress is open source. Creators are free to create share and distribute what they create with WordPress.

WordPress.com Entity

WordPress.com is a hosted version of WordPress that offers plans for personal, freelance, small business, and ecommerce. They offer custom domains and design assistance. They have anti-spam and security solutions for website creation.

Summary

WordPress evolved from B2Cafelog so that anyone can create a website to share their products, creations, and ideas. WordPress users can create a site for free or pay for a hosting plan to get them started.
